Up About Us Members Song List

Alliance was established in 1984, Oskaloosa, Iowa.

At that time, the band played the most current rock-n-roll hits by artists such as Styx, REO Speedwagon, Kansas, Night Ranger, 38 Special, Mr. Mr., Van Halen, Sammy Hagar, Rush, Kiss, Journey, and so on....

The band originated with the DeJong Brothers, Tim (keyboards) and Terry (Drums), Chris Roberts (guitar) and Dan Spotten (bass).  All the members, very talented on their instruments, also displayed exceptional vocal abilities giving the bands sound a great variety of rock singing styles with full 2,3 and 4 part harmonies.  With the keyboards in the mix, the band Alliance was able to pull of a large variety of cover tunes which most bands at that time could pull off.

From 1984 thru 1986 the band performed nearly 3-4 weekends a month playing at night clubs and school dances and proms in South-Central Iowa and Northern MIssouri.  Alliance has also been well know for their elite stage productions including many special lighting effects, splitting drum stage and pyrotechnics.

In later 1986, the band split up for reasons of members pursuing advanced schooling degrees, and career interests.

In 1998, the band reformed for a reunion performance at the Iowa State Fair free stage, bring back the old set list of classic hits of the '80's.  Then, continued this tradition of a once a year performance at the Iowa State Fair free stage every year to this date.  The membership continued with the DeJong brothers and at least one of the other original members, until 2002 when all four original members performed together once again.  In 2003, bass player Dan Spotten pulled out, due to his responsibilities and commitment to the Abate of Iowa, which then the band added Dr. John Hoekstra as their Bass Player, and began playing out in night clubs on a regular basis once again.

This year at the 2006 Iowa State Fair free stage, Amy Howe, of West Des Moines, joined up with Alliance on Lead Vocals  for this performance.  With her extremely talented vocal abilities and beauty gave a whole new stage appearance and sound to the band.  Unfortunately, this was Amy's only performance with the band, and weeks following the performance Chris Roberts (guitar) opted to leave the band.  However, Tim, Terry and Dr. John are continuing the project with Bob "PeeWee" Edwards (from Oskaloosa), on guitars.
